GA-NARLED MESS, INDEED!

Willing? Or Choosing?

Hang on, Baby Love!
Choice, Free Will, and Decision-making
Are perfectly inseparable.

We supposedly use free will to make choices,
But the question arises, “If we choose to follow the rules,
How can it be a ‘free will’ choice?”

Even the rules are tangled, and they go back a long way
Because they make civilization possible.
So, after a gob of million years, we are finally hardwired
To obey the rules—or die (something like that).

Seems to indicate that, until we can choose to break a rule,
We can’t, of our own “free will,” choose to follow it.
Breaking the rules appears to validate “free will.”

Which leaves our “ability to make decisions” hanging out to dry.

Free choice to decide disappears into the background jungle
Of multiple circumstances, external conditions, present and past life experiences,
Enculturation, genetics, momentary feelings, pain level, ad infinitum.

Just so happens that all aspects of Life limit the scope of a decision,
Which begs the question:  “free” will? or “not-too-free” will?

It surely looks as if we are malleable protoplasm,
Totally in the hands of the Universe, but pretending
We have the free will to guide our own lives.

You’re not pretending?    You have authentic Free Will?   Then
What is your plan?         What is your goal?
What is your mission?    Why are you incarnate?
And what the heck are you doing here?

Wake up Baby Love! You can’t have it both ways!
You do nothing of yourself, whether you think so or not.
Reconcile the conflict.
Use your “free will” to consider yourself a puppet in Good Hands.

Oh, by the way, you’re  already  the  puppeteer.
